John Gruber, “It’s really rather ridiculous how popular the GIF format is in 2017.”

I’ve been saying this for a while. The fact that GIF is still a thing is a testament to how ignorant modern web users are. An unpopular opinion I’ll continue to tout, the Internet is a privilege, not a right. Too many copyright infringing, non-technical people who don’t know anything about protecting themselves online sharing 100 megabyte GIFs (which are also copyright infringement) with other people shouldn’t be allowed to be online. They are and I hope developers can save these people from themselves by at least adopting MP4 as a very valid alternative.
