★ 30th Birthday Champagne Thoughts

I went to Bermuda for my 30th birthday and brought 3 champagne bottles with me I had been holding for 2-3 years. They were all vintage bottles, each 10-15 years old.

1998 Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin La Grande Dame Brut, a Canada find for 30% off due to the exchange rate. This was more earthy with a lot of really dry grape-skin and kiwi in the middle. Would most certainly have this one again.

Tarlant Cuvee Louis Extra Brut, this was a magnum i picked up in early 2015 in France at Tarlant. I believe it was 130 Euros so around 150 USD at the time. Split 6 ways. It needed a lot of time to breathe but it was an exceptional wine. Cheese, funk, wood, must, apples, some citrus tinge at the end. Really beautiful.

2004 Dom Perignon Brut, honestly I can never tell these vintages apart. It’s a hyped, huge volume vintage champagne that never fails to impress me (except that one Rose we had over Christmas). Remarkable brightness with lots of oak and a bit of mustiness that fades after breathing a bit.
