Photography: Olympus 9mm f/8.0 Fisheye Lens

If this ends up being a significant addition to my collection, I’ll for sure write more about it in the future but I’ve been eyeing a fisheye lens for a while but anything people recommend is in the $800 range and up and then I found this one. It’s a lens-cap lens that has zero intelligence at all. It’s small, all plastic body, manual lens open and manual focus. It’s also f/8 aperture so there is little chance that I’ll be able to shoot in anything lower than dusk cloudy conditions. The manual focus is also a bit wonky. The slider between .2 meters and infinity is a traveling distance of less than 1 inch so granularity toward focus is pretty weak which you’ll notice in the samples posted below.

The huge advantage to this lens? It’s $99 and I can use it as a body-cap when traveling and the quality of the photos (once I get it focused and in broad-daylight) is pretty darn good. We’ll see if this ends up being a valuable addition to my camera bag but I’m impressed with it so far.
