Brewed in 2005 and bottled in January of 2007, there were roughly 40 of these made but it could be less. I know that earlier in 2013, 40 of the 3L bottles were sold at the brewery in the new shape (see photo here). This is the “grenade shaped” bottle and there may not be too many of these left unopened.
For anyone wondering, trading for this took a bottle of Russian River T25 $20?, Stille Nacht Reserva 2010 $40 and a 750 ML of Quetsche Tilquin $30 to a guy in Southern California who promptly sent this my way.
PS: If you have any other large format Russian River or Struise Beers, please let me know. I’d do a similar trade again for any bottle style of almost any beer.
The bottle side by side with a 1.5L ‘Magnum’, 22oz ‘bomber’ and a standard 12oz bottle.
That… is epic. And I love the shape of the bottle, too.
The shape is pretty freaking awesome!!! The recent 3L bottles are just very large wine bottles, I love the grenade shape. The guy that approached me about trading it and I offered some stuff but wasn’t really huge on just getting what’s basically equivalent to 8 bottles of Supplication that, once you open, you can’t recork it.
Then he sent me the photo and I just had to have it! It looks so awesome.
Hah, yeah, it’s a A LOT of sour beer. I would be hesitant, too. Save it for a wedding or something. :D
