★ Linked: “Samsung’s Galaxy NX”

via Gizmodo:

If last year’s Samsung Galaxy Camera looked like Dr. Frankenstein had sewn a point-and-shoot camera onto the back of a Galaxy S3, the new Galaxy NX is the opposite. It takes the Android UI 3G/4G/LTE connectivity of a smartphone, and slaps it onto the back of an interchangeable-lens camera.

This is the future. While I’m going to wager the first 2-3 years of these cameras are going to suck, the potential is huge. An Interchangeable lens camera with a sensor that’s VERY good paired with a touch screen Android UI and LTE data connection with apps for Instagram, Twitter, Facebook wow. It’s what a lot of people are waiting for. Instantly share photos with a real, high-quality camera

Smartphone Camera fanboys will argue this is just a camera maker throwing a Hail Mary as a last ditch effort to save their consumer camera business but I see this as a saving grace for pocket cameras.

Will I use a camera like this? No, because photographers take dozens of photos, go on “photo walks” edit those photos in Lightroom, tag and organize them and then upload the good ones. I’m not dropping $1200 on a camera just to apply an Instagram filter and upload it as I take it. Some people want this and this is the camera for them.
