As usual, Belgium was a great adventure followed by a very kind Danish experience. Thanks mostly to users from RateBeer, I had a fantastic time, met and drank with some fine folks and did a few trades as well as buy a few beers. Compared to my last beer haul from Belgium, this is a bit more tame but a bit more specialized. Kurt from Belgium in a Box was kind enough to take his Friday night to help pack up some of these beers and only charge me for materials and shipping cost. What a great guy. His hospitality while in Antwerpen will not be forgotten, neither will the great beer geeks I got to spend time with!
The goal of this trip was to acquire beers I had yet to try and could not get in the US and also tick a few new beers while there and not bring so many bottles home with me. Vermont did pretty well last year for 3F, Tilquin and Cantillon shipments but we didn’t get any Saint Lamvinus nor did we get any Lou Pepe variants so I got a case of each. Iris is a beer my GF and I enjoy but after about 2 years of age so we have 2 cases of this already and I grabbed 3 bottles. I fell in love with the 2007 Oude Gueuze Vintage from 3F while in Belgium last year and spent a lot of time with the help of some friends I’ve made there to grab a few of these and bring back home. It’s a shame I couldn’t get more.
All of the beers I acquired in Denmark and Sweden are in the beer haul for March that I posted on Monday. This is strictly the boxes I had mailed back to me after Belgium and before going to Netherlands or Denmark.
It was a very wonderful trip and these will surely be enjoyed by me and friends! I only regret not bring back some of that Cantillon Lambic Cheese! A few are already accounted for to go to my regular trading partners.
Next steps: cataloguing all of these with shelf tags (those that are to be stored horizontal) and add all of these to my online beer cellar. My favorite thing about photos is that I get to see all of the fill lines lined up. Looks like I was cheated out of an ounce of Oude Gueuze Vintage :) Also, the Struise Double Black had a Gold Label when I dropped it off. Shame that’s missing now. It’ll go nice next to my bottle of Five Squared. Another thing I’m stoked about is having 3 of the 3F A&T Gueuze. I loved drinking it in Copenhagen and am stoked to have more!
