★ Organizing My Cellar with CellarHQ

A few weeks ago, the team at CellarHQ reached out to me after I tweeted about us beer collectors not having many great options for cellaring. Most of us use Google Docs. I use Excel and upload to Google Docs to share with people. Beer trading revolves around Google Docs and it’s not a great platform for a few reasons. Most importantly, it’s not really tailored to beer. CellarHQ is but my issue was that it was a manual process. I had to enter every single one of my 300+ beers into their system. This would take hours that could be spent drinking beer.

I sent the team my Excel files and they used it and other CSV and XLS documents to build a new feature for uploading your cellar doc. Very cool! After a few weeks, the feature launched.

The #1 excuse I’ve heard for not using CellarHQ has been “I already have my cellar in a Google Docs spreadsheet and don’t want to have to re-enter it.” It’s a completely valid excuse, especially for those of you with mighty impressive cellars. Well, if you’ve been holding out, you can now import your previous Google Docs, Excel, or Numbers (iWork) spreadsheet by uploading a CSV to CellarHQ.

I was told my cellar could probably be imported at 50% success rate. They were right.

The ones that weren’t matched were easy to fix. I could see what was not matched and then manually add them with most of the details already included such as bottle count and year:

Overall, this tool was built very fast and works as expected. You can view my cellar right here!
