★ “The Social Networks”

via Carpeaqua:

While many networks have feature overlap, I have carved out specific niches for each one that are targeted towards the specific audience I am aiming for on the service. Things I post on this site may not be appropriate to share on Twitter or Facebook, but may make sense on Google+. Similarly, some photos are taken for Flickr, while others for Instagram.

This is the system of social network separation that works for me. Maybe it will work for you too.

Aside from Instagram and Stamped, this legend of social network and the way they fit into my life is almost identical. The blog, Twitter, Facebook and Path usage is dead on. I do completely disagree with Flickr. I think the users of Flickr, not the service is facing an identify crises.

My opinion: Flickr is great and deserves little change at this point. There is still a value proposition for my $25 (ad free, unlimited storage) and I will gladly keep paying it. See, Flickr hasn’t evolved to keep up with us but I’m happy about that. As more people shift to camera phones and to Instagram and other photo sharing services, Flickr remains the #1 place for professionals to share photos. Let’s ignore Flickr’s draconian moderation standards and community censorship for a moment. Flickr is for pro photographers or hobbyists. The reason no one in technology gives a shit about Flickr anymore is because they are leaving their point & shoot cameras at home and only using their iPhones. For this reason, Flickr is “old news” but for us photographers, it’s still the best place to receive recognition for our work.
