★ “Final Cut Pro X Or Really iMovie Pro?”

TechCrunch:

Many complaints center around lost features. We used to be able to do this, and now we can’t. You can’t work with existing FCP Suite projects. This is one of those updates where you don’t want to overwrite the old app with the new one. Most editors will need to keep the older copy of the program on their hard drive and hope the two versions don’t cause a problem. Or else, you could spend the extra time and effort to install the new version on a disk partition.

In my post yesterday, that’s exactly what I was going to say or at least revisit later. I really wish this was a $150 app that was called iMovie Pro. I wished that FCP had remained a $1,000 editing suite and FCE (final cut express) was turned into iMovie Pro and iMovie remained good ole iMovie.

Of note, FCP X didn’t get a $700 price drop. Final Cut Studio was $999 and included FCP + additional applications. If you want FCP + Color + Motion, expect to pay $400. So, it’s really a $600 price drop over the previous version, not $700.
