My Car: My lonely Kyalami Green TT RS sitting alone at an Audi Dealership

I received a notice from the XPEL Dealer the other day that they’d have my car in for a couple of weeks to take care of a few things:

  • Full paint correction on the entire car
  • Full interior detailing including painstakingly removing all of the human-oils from the alcantara touch surfaces like doors, seats and steering wheel
  • Paint polish and ceramic coating
  • Pain protection film (clear bra) over the front half of the car, side-skirts and some heavy use areas like doors handles
  • XPEL Ceramic Window tint on all side & rear windows
  • Ceramic coating the wheels for easy brake dust cleaning
  • Extra time spent curing to make sure the install is perfect since I don’t live near an XPEL dealer up here for warranty claims

I just keep seeing my car sitting in a show room looking pretty which I’m told it’ll still be there looking pretty until I can pick it up since it’s their sportiest car on the lot at the moment which both strokes my ego and makes me feel good that it isn’t sitting under a tree full of crows doing their crow-business all over it.

I booked my flight today for April 4th to be in Asheville by 9AM, take delivery (officially) and drive it home. Time is limited right now but they will have had the car all of February and all of March so I think that’s good enough for free storage.

The only thing that would change my flight down is a snow storm between 3/20-4/5 that didn’t end in rain after since I want the car to have never seen road-salt so I think 4/5 is pushing it for the last bit of the drive north but looking at the forecast, it’s going to be in the 50s all next week which is essentially “fake spring” in New Hampshire. However, we could get lucky and get 10-15” of snow through end of March and then 4/5 isn’t crazy at least for getting the car up here then I can just park it until the roads are not only clear but also straight again since we have frost heaves up here that make driving a lowered car on 20” wheels not only uncomfortable but so bad that you could bend a wheel or crack an oil pan which was very well documented on this blog.

The final step will be to have them put an APR Stage 1+ tune on it and I’ll fly down with some tools and 5 spark plugs to replace those before I drive north since APR recommends plugs that are a step or two colder than factory.

I’m excited to get the car home. My house will be done at some point in April and I should be able to move in early May. That’s 2 more full months of work on the house which feels good pending any sub-contractors holding us up. Having lived with in-laws since mid-November, I’m ready to be back home.

For now, my car is getting completely restored after 18,500 miles of use in the first 4 years of its life (low miles but still…..miles) and then it’ll get a software tune that adds 100 horsepower and 150 lb/ft of torque for the drive home.

Heather wanted to join me on the drive but it went from being a 5-day trip to a 2 day since I don’t have a lot of leeway on time off right now.
