Let’s start with the videos:
It’s thrilling to see so much progress in a couple of weeks. After meeting with our GC and selecting some siding, paint, shingles and windows together oh and of course the garage door, Heather mocked up this image with AI (Nano Banana is really impressive)

Here’s how it looks now:

Here some photos in order over the last couple of weeks:

A few things have occurred that we’ve had to align, react or discuss for next steps:
- We won’t use a truss system that’s built off-site. Delays are long, a crane can’t access our property and there’s no place to store them so they’re going to stick-built the roof on-site at no extra cost which enables some special-ness
- Primarily, all new construction will be 8′ framing and ceilings including the living room, part of the kitchen, two bedrooms and primary bath. The existing bathroom and bedroom will be 7′ ceilings
- We’ll also get some nice roof vaulting for sweeping views of the lake
- Finally, this enables a flat single roof line which will be great
- The joists were installed on the 12×40 addition
- The decking was put on
- Framing was completed
- Demo started on the front half of the existing house and a fake wall was put up to hold in heat for a bit and the elements
- Backfill on the new foundation was completed with drainage
- Solar panels were removed and put into storage
- We prepped for next week’s ROOF REMOVAL!
Finally, our bank paid out the first big check. We’ve now spent $118,000 of $450,000 estimated. It doesn’t look like $118K worth of work but we’re 10 weeks in and a lot of work has been done.
