Shortly after they shut it down, Yahoo offered to sell the domain back to me, an unprecedented move for a former acquisition.
I decided to launch a Kickstarter project to gauge interest in bringing Upcoming back from the dead. With the incredible support and infinite patience of 1,787 backers, I rebuilt Upcoming from scratch, restored the event archive, and relaunched the community in March 2017.
Thank you for believing in it.
I have a few Flickr screenshots of Upcoming in a time I was hosting Macworld events. It was a valuable service for Web 2.0 in San Francisco. While I have no use for it in New Hampshire (nor will I expect any NH events get posted to Upcoming), it does serve a valuable purpose in tech and I will gladly support any service that takes away power from Facebook and gives people an option.
Nick Starr and I hosted Mimosa Factory and Yoono and I worked together to host Tweets & Dreenks each month. Laura always designed our marketing materials.
I hosted a Keith and the Girl meetup in SF
I certainly owe a lot to this service as it was and wish everyone at Upcoming the best of luck with the re-launch.
