I don’t know about you, but for me, using Twitter the past couple weeks has been painful. Yes, it’s a painful reminder of the reality of the election, but that’s not what I mean here. It’s just painful to use because it seems like every single tweet is about one thing: Trump.
I’m personally (without action) at war with the mainstream web. Twitter (like Facebook) is ruined for educated, fair and informed people. The Twitter Hater stories we heard about earlier this year and Facebook fake news stories and Reddit’s alt-right invasion that nearly caused the site to implode on itself is all a result of everyone’s mom, brother, grandpa and uncle now being on the Internet. Smatphones & Apps have brought our geeky social networks into the mainstream and the mainstream has a lot of problems. When you put everyone int he same room, the uneducated loud-mouths are going to ruin it for everyone else.
Every day, I’m so happy I have this blog and my RSS feeds where I can read authors I love w/o any comments, ads, fluff, fake news or re-tweets. It’s the purest form of Internet consumption. If you’re on a social network with 100 million users, it will continue to be ruined.
This isn’t a war against people I disagree with. It’s a war against the mainstream. The same people who click on pop-up ads are now being retweeted into your stream and they shouldn’t be using the Internet or should be in their own special website until they prove to everyone that they can use the web responsibly and with respect for others.
