Apple allows for either WiFi or Bluetooth low energy (LE)-enabled devices to get certified as a HomeKit accessory. Apple is requiring device makers using both WiFi and Bluetooth LE to use complicated encryption with 3072-bit keys, as well as the super secure Curve25519, which is an elliptic curve used for digital signatures and exchanging encrypted keys.
This is an old article linked by Daring Fireball. I’d rather have a slim selection of high – priced gadgets that work with Apple’s system than a plethora of low-quality and low-cost gadgets that never quite work right. I do think 2013 and 2014 Home Kit devices were pretty rough. as we enter into 2017, the HomeKit market is much better with a lot more choice which weeds out the weak players. I’m all – in on HomeKit in my new home.
