The Oscar-winner limitations don’t seem to be tied to the Best Picture category either. Of the twelve films that won an Oscar in 2013, only two are listed in the U.S. Netflix library.
and only 2 films from Best Picture since 1996 are on Netflix (and who knows for how long before they disappear again)
Online video is awful. One day, you’re going to miss having TiVo and a cable subscription.
This is my biggest worry about moving TV online: we’re just going to end up recreating what we used to have, with a different middleman. So I guess it’s yet another case of “be careful what you wish for…”
I hope more people start to realize that the end of cable isn’t the start of freedom or some utopia where you can watch anything you want at any time without commercial for a single fee to a single company on any device you want. Even when we can watch everything we want, whenever on any device, it’s going to be pricier than cable was and it will require commercials.
Stealing content is still the best way to watch television and it will be for as far as I can see.
