I moved to a new house that has very little beer storage space. I still wanted to store a lot of my bottles-to-drink on-site so I picked up a huge upright freezer. Why upright? Well, it might store less than a standard chest freezer but for a chest-freezer to be usable, you have to make bottles impossible to access by stacking a piece of wood on top of bottles and then stacking again. Great for long term cellaring but bad for bottles you’ll be drinking this year.
I bought this from Sears, Kenmore 22042 20.2 cu. ft. Upright Freezer along with the Johnson Controls A419 Temperature Controller which I’ve used for 2 years on my Danby Kegerator / Keezer. I thought a 20 cubic foot freezer would hold a lot of beer. In fact, it only held just one of my 3 huge Husky toolboxes worth of beer and none of my Lambic. Basically, this will be used for Hill Farmstead bottles and a few 375ML Lambic bottles. Sigh.
Realistically I need 4 of these to hold all of my on-site beer and another 3 to hold my off-site beer. I need to drink WAY more.
Here’s the old setup:
