I watch the original Star Wars trilogy once a year. Most recently, I abandoned my Blu-Ray copy of the trilogy for Harmy’s Despecalized Edition and won’t be looking back. It is Star Wars in the best form. I’ve watched it twice and it really is a masterpiece. Huge thanks to Harmy for his exhaustive work on putting that together.
Anyway, I watch the prequel trilogy every couple of years. That’s about all I can handle of Anakin crying his way around the galaxy while murdering everyone that loves him. It’s a necessary component of the saga but sadly, never should have been released as a 3-parter.
I’ve been waiting to buy tickets to the Star Wars release in IMAX and I will certainly be seeing it in IMAX this year despite the fact that only a few seconds of the film were actually shot in native IMAX format. Also, it was converted to 3D and I’m with James Cameron that 3D is only good if it was done natively. Oh well.
Anyway, in my pursuit to buy Star Wars the Force Awakens tickets this, I found that there is a marathon playing in select cities on the 17th of December. Here’s the schedule:
- THE PHANTOM MENANCE: 1:00am
- ATTACK OF THE CLONES: 3:30am
- REVENGE OF THE SITH: 6:15am
- A NEW HOPE: 10:15am
- THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK: 12:45pm
- RETURN OF THE JEDI: 3:15pm
- THE FORCE AWAKENS: 7:00pm
The price is $59 through AMC Theaters and you can see if your city has a showing via this page. I jumped at the opportunity to buy tickets. The last marathon I did was when SAW: The Final Chapter was released and Laura and I saw all of them at the AMC Metreon in SF for a low price of like $20. It was a difficult and emotional rollercoaster to see every SAW back to back.
I saw the Star Wars ‘new trilogy’ in theatres on release night as they came out. I remember people actually booing for Attack of the Clones but I’ve never seen the original trilogy on the big screen and while it probably won’t be my last opportunity to do so, I really want to watch all of them back to back. Funny enough, I have a really good hunch that the theater will be completely empty until the 10AM showing of A New Hope. We’ll see and I’ll report on the crowd levels. So, I’ve taken the day off work and will be driving down to Boston to see Star Wars in theatres. YAY!
