Linked: “‘Overshare: The Links.net Story’, A Documentary About Justin Hall Sharing His Life Online Since 1994”

via LaughingSquid:

Overshare: The Links.net Story is a fascinating documentary by my friend Justin Hall (who is considered to be one of the first bloggers) about the story of how he has been sharing his personal life “in explicit detail” online since 1994 through his website Links.net. The documentary is free to watch online and there is also a “TMI edition” available for purchase via VHX with extra footage and outtakes.

I watched this a few weeks ago. I see a lot of myself in Justin Hall. I’m not unfamiliar with his story but seeing it laid out was really awesome. The documentary was well done. I think Justin was about 6 years ahead of me in Internet adoption but other than that, we have a lot of similar stories and approaches to life and living it transparently online. I share far less than I used to because eventually, you have to censor yourself if you’re going to be a part of this society. Maybe my grand kids will be able to live transparently without repercussion. Justin did but he eventually realized sharing it all is dangerous.
