Linked: “People Are Paying For Car Tech They Aren’t Even Using”

via Jalopnik and Reuters:

The most underused feature was in-vehicle concierge systems that can recommend nearby restaurants or gas stations. It was not used by 43 percent of respondents and followed by mobile routers that turn a car into a Wifi hot spot, unused by 38 percent.

Automatic parking systems were unused by 35 percent of those surveyed, the report found.

Auto makers seem to be doing everything they can to capture market share. Cars are faster, more fuel efficient, bigger and smaller than they were decades ago. Technology features are abundant but the mind-share of humans while driving is still quite small. 50 buttons that control 100 features are simply too many for people.

I think autonomous driving will be the next evolution. The cool tech distractions of today’s automobiles are temporary band-aids for what’s coming next.
