My Car: An overview of VW Car-Net (iOS + Web)

Volkswagen Car-Net is available on many of the 2016 VWs that are shipping. As a new car owner, you have a 6-month free trial and then it costs $199 a year. Worth it? I’m not convinced but I did setup my 6-month trial and will use it as much as possible to weigh in on the ultimate value. In summary, Car-Net offers:

  • Roadside Assistance
  • Information Line (w/ link to your Sat-Nav to the place they recommend you go so you don’t have to key in any address info)
  • SOS – basically the same as phoning 911
  • Vehicle Location
  • Vehicle status (doors opened, locked doors)
  • Fuel left in the tank
  • 5 Vehicle Heath Reports per month
  • When your airbags deploy or a crash is detected, Car-Net is notified and reaches out to you and emergency services
  • and a few more features

All of the dial features were you ask for information, report a flat tire or call emergency services are 24/7. It seems like a nice deal. If I don’t want to search Yelp for the nearest coffee shop with Espresso and Pour-over, I can hit the Info button and they’ll take me there. Might be handy!

I snapped a few photos of the website and iPhone App. The mobile app could use some improvements.
