On my recent trip to Florida, I visited my Dad’s Gym. He has been in the fitness industry since golden glove boxing during his early teens. The gym he’s created over the last 18 months is a culmination of his personal style, training regiment and the kind of approach he has to fitness.
During the training days I had with him at Amp Hardcore Gym, we did minimal weight lifting and instead pushed and pulled 300 pound sleds, flipped 600 pound tires and chucked medicine balls around with 50 yard long lunges followed by an intense abdominal routine that he does daily. There’s yelling, cussing, heavy metal and huge commercial fans pushing around the sweat and heat in the old warehouse.
I’ve been training with him since I was 2 years old in our home gym where I pushed 1.5 pound weights in my beach clothes. He’s had a hard time finding a gym that was reminiscent to the spirit of the original Golds Gym with the modern methods and equipment that we have today. Amp is expanding into a bigger space by end of Summer with a boxing ring and rows of punching bags.
Exciting stuff and I wish a gym like this was near me. I took a few photos with my Olympus Wide-Angle fisheye lens for Dad to use on the website.
