This once every 2-3 year festival goes down as one of my favorites. I don’t usually write about beer festivals but this one deserves a bit of appreciation to the staff, organizers and brewers that participated.
First, there wasn’t a single bad beer at this festival. Yes, some mediocre beers but every beer I had was good to fantastic. this almost never happens. De Molen, Kernel, Struise steal the show in quality of beers they brought.
The venue and execution were flawless. There was plenty of space, a very few amount of people meaning you never waiting more than 60 seconds for any beer. In fact, there was so much room, I was able to stand at a brewer booth with my laptop and tick all 6 beers of there’s without being in anyone’s way.
The food was excellent. A new Flanders restaurant was serving hot meals w/ ample seating and some good beers.
The beer store next door allowed you to buy beers and they’d store them for you until after the festival was over. They also did a great job of having most of the beers that were available for sampling so you could find a favorite and then grab a bottle to bring home.
I hope they do this festival again. Here are some choice photos:
You can see from this photo just how few people were here. 147 different beers and about 100 people at any maximum time.
