Very let down by this bottle. It must have been an off-bottle and sadly, I’ll never get to try this one again.
AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20]
S – Smells like a very salty olive brine with cheese and mushroom with a bit of truffle oil. Honestly, the saltiness dominates most of the nose. There’s a very faint lemon aroma but it’s hard to really pick out. There is a little bit of funk on the nose as it warms up. Very faint though.
T – The taste is really interesting but honestly, I just get salted olive brine like a dominating sea-salt, kelp, fishy taste. A lot of funky old cheese, mold, a bit of grape and sour lemon finish. What a strange taste.
M – body is medium with a slight carbonation on a swish, oily finish with lingering lemon, gouda, and more funk
O – This was was sort of a let-down. #11 on the retired Gueuze list on RateBeer? The guy who traded me this has traded with me before and all of his bottles were real, authentic and he’s very trustworthy so I assume it’s the real thing as it tastes nothing like any other Cantillon Gueuze. The salty olive taste is just a huge let-down. What a shame. I waited an extra 20 minutes and let it warm and decant. The flavor doesn’t get any better but the nose does get more intense. Looks like my review brought this from #11 on the list to #13. Terribly sorry about that but seriously, just not good :(
