Happy Eight Birthday, iPhone

Today, eight years ago, I was sitting in the media area around row 15 @ Moscone Center when Steve Jobs announced iPhone. I was working for an IT company in Florida, blogging in my spare time and putting all of the money I earned blogging toward hosting Macworld events in San Francisco once a year. My involvement in that community kick-started the career I have today through networking and real-world training. Macworld 2007 is my favorite of the entire run of events I attended from 2004-2012 followed closely by SXSW 2009.

I’d like to share a few photos to mark this occasion and it’s no denying the huge impact Apple and iPhone had on my life. Thanks Steve and Co. for everything.

My annual city tour of San Francisco. Note this was also the first big trip Laura and I took together exactly 15 months before we moved to San Francisco.

The annual pre-keynote meetup where newcomers can meet at a central location and we I give everyone coffee and doughnuts and we head over to the keynote

I think was was my 2nd annual DailyTechTalk Macworld party. I rented out Swig bar in San Francisco.

On behalf of the now-defunct Spymac, I got to meet Steve Wozniak for the first time.

This was also the year the filmmakers behind Mac Heads came to SF and filmed my events and an interview with me for a documentary that still airs sometimes late at night on CNBC.

Then, we were all introduced to iPhone.

I got to meet Steve right after the keynote. His wife was there among other friends, family and colleagues.

I love this photo. Although it’s blurry, the old school flip-camera phone the guy was using to snap a photo of a device that was quite literally, the future.

Six months later, I lined up overnight (3rd in line) in Florida to be one of the first to buy iPhone. Looking back, I’m happy that I was there for its introduction.
