This is not a Gueuze but I’m going to just start opening unrated Lambic this week including all of the unrated Bzart beers I’ve acquired. I have a few of each and maintain that these beers are going to shine in a decade or so if you don’t mind the price of entry. If you can somehow find a Magnum of the 2007 Oude Gueuze Bzart, grab it and lay it down for 10 years. Just my advice.
This is the Bzart Oude Kriek which has certain requirements in EU to adhere to when given the name Oude Kriek. Tomorrow, I’ll put up the Bzart KriekenLambiek and we’ll see how these differ.
AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A – Looks like a crimson / maroon red with a slightly red 4 finger head that fades to 1 finger and sticks around. Cork popped in a similar way to champagne.
S – The nose is nice. Sweet cherry pie, cloves, brown sugar, tart and oak with a bit of grape juice.
T – The taste is surprisingly very good. Reminds me a lot of better done back sweetened kriek Lambiek or just a sweeter version of Oud Beersel Kriek. Tart and sweet finish lingers for a while
M – Mouthfeel is huge, very champagne like it’s a nice explosion of flavor and very dense mouthfeel. Interesting
O – For the price I paid in Belgium, I may buy this again but at prices we see here in USA, it’s just not worth it.
