Kicking off the week of Gueuze with one of my older bottles. I picked up 2 of these in Belgium with this being the smaller one. This is retired and no longer made but I don’t know much about it other than it is ratable on RateBeer which means tickers have to tick. I was pretty amazed at how good this one and then I let it open up for about 30 minutes and the beer really shined. A bit too sour for my liking but still a lot going on here despite the nearly absent carbonation.
AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
A – Ultra cloudy, just a murky burnt gold color. Cork had a small whisp of carbonation but no head formed.
S – The nose is not overwhelming but it smells very sour, lots of lemon, lime, maybe some cherry cola, coconut and balsamic vinegar.
T – Oh yeah, this is a total sour bomb! Insanely sour like it’s hurting my tongue but it has a lot of depth. A lot of flavor going on, nice lemon and sour dough bread and skittles.
M – Pretty much completely flat
O – Really enjoyed trying this. I have a 75CL as well but given I’m drinking this with just 1 other person, I’m glad it was enjoyed in the smaller format first.
