I’ve needed a new pair of sunglasses for a very long time. I had some pairs as a kid when I owned contacts and sunglasses were an essential part of life in a Florida beach-town right after suntan oil and flip-flops. I moved to SF, went Rx glasses full time and it wasn’t until the winter of 2010 that I realized snow-blindness was totally a thing and I should look into new glasses.
However, nothing really stood out to me. Sunglasses are pricey and I needed prescription lenses and I wasn’t happy with most of what was out there. I grew up wearing Oakley as my Dad still does. He’s a classic M-Frame guy and most of the men in my family wear M-frame or Frogskins almost religiously.
In August while in town for work & a Giants Phillies game in San Francisco, I strolled into the Oakley store and tried on their Carbon Blade product. These glasses were beautiful, felt fantastic and gripped my face with such an intense lightweight feeling as if they weren’t even there. The nose pads were filled with air, there was exposed carbon, red and orange hues and they fit my face perfectly.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t buy them because I didn’t have a copy of a recent eye exam with me so I got back to New Hampshire, found an Oakley authorized Optician and started the order process. November 3rd, I finally have my glasses due to issues with backordering and certain options I wanted not being available.
For the prescription, I purchased the sunglasses outright but the Polarized Fire Iridium w/ Ferrari logo can’t accept my prescription. I get to keep those lenses but had to go with an alternate. The highest reviewed Polarized Iridium color was Black and after trying on different colors, that’s what I went with.
The glasses finally arrived and I took a few photos. These are gorgeous! I can’t wait to wear them for ice-fishing this winter time and other outdoor sports and I hope the snow-blindness and headaches I get every winter are further reduced this time around.

The original lenses still came with my glasses so if I ever go back to contacts, I can swap out the Rx lenses for the Fire Iridium.
