★ Reviews: Some Hair of the Dog Beers

I grabbed a few bottles in person via store hopping and trades during the Portland OR trip in the Fall. I finally cracked these open along with a bottle from the 90s of Golden Rose that was a gift from a certain beer geek in central Maine. Chris and I enjoyed these split 4 ways. I should have held on to Matt a bit longer. The others were really great.

I didn’t snap any additional photos of Cherry Adam as I already reviewed it in Portland OR. Nice to have this one again…after Matt, it’s my favorite of the group.

Grabbed this at BottleWorks for $20 a bottle. 2013 vintageA – Pours a brown to black, sort of hazy and chocolate colored. No head formed at all. Amber edges.

S – Loads of raisin and currants, Super woody, maple and birch with a touch of cedar. Vanilla and roasted milk chocolate

T – Lots of ABV to this one. You get a lot of toffee, wine tannings, grapey persimmon, kiwi, chocolate cake and pudding. Peated as all get-up

M – This coats the tongue like no other beer. Very oily and thick

O – This can definitely use a lot of age but it’s an incredible brew. try it if you can.

Thanks Chris L for this treat. The bottle looks VERY old. Label says “Golden Rose” Batch 009A – Looks like flat cream soda. Crimson and gold.

S – Nose is slightly oxidized, floral and lots of herbs with caramel and candy.

T – A mild tart taste, bits of cardboard and leather shoe. Very floral, lots of vanilla and red berries. Slightly peppery and dry finish.

M – Thin, oily and sweet

O – This has held up extremely well!

Picked this up in Portland ORA – Weird chunks of peaches. Gorgeous dark brown to black pour. 3 finger head, bottle didn’t gush but it certainly foamed a lot

S – Huge raisin, figs and currants nose. Cherries are certainly dominant but lots of dark tree fruits and caramel.

T – Sweet, candy like. The cherry comes through in a huge way. Super malty, refined for a huge 13% ABV. Oak presence is dominating. candy like intensity

M – Boozy finish, slick, sweet and oily

O – This is not as good as I expected it to be but very nice. If only it was a little less hot

2012 Vintage split 3 ways.A – Bright red pour, looks mahogany and crimson in the glass

S – Nose is bursting with cherry, fruit and wood.

T – Acidic at the finish, not overly sour. Has more rotten cherry old moldy fruit taste. oak and wine tannic grape juice

M – Thin, oily and dry

O – Nice nose, the taste falls short. It’s not that old of a beer.
