Still being a total noob at home brewing, I try to spend more time reading and learning than I do brewing. The ratio has been good so far. I often have to read each book twice due to my utter lack of comprehension on a first reading. I’m that way with every book and wish more home brewing books came in audio format because I retain more that way.
I received a question via Facebook asking me what books I’ve read so far in home brewing. While I’m a terrible home brewer, I have learned a lot from the following books and recommend them highly. If there are other books out there that I should have read by now, please let me know!
- The Complete Joy of Homebrewing Third Edition
- Wild Brews: Culture and Craftsmanship in the Belgian Tradition
- For The Love of Hops
- Designing Great Beers
- Lambic (Classic Beer Style) (Out of print but LeviFunk has posted a link to a digital version which is what I read on my iPad. Worked well! Thanks a lot Levi.)
Up next, I want to read Farmhouse Ales because, of the styles I drink most often, Saisons are my favorite followed by Lambic and then IPAs. For the most part, the IPAs I’m brewing are fantastic and very delicious but it’s probably just the freshness aspect. I also live in Vermont with tons of great hoppy IPAs available locally from nice brewers. Lambic is expensive to buy so I’ve wanted to brew one but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Still reading, researching and learning from books before I attempt this. Saisons are delicious. I’ve brewed 5 of them so far with mixed results. It would be good to get better at this category.
You’re posting a link to a pirated book. Sucks for the author that his work is getting stolen without any compensation.
If you feel so strongly, contact the service hosting the book and notify them of this. I’m not hosting the book myself so if that link suddenly went away, I would have a broken link.
I also posted the link to the book on Amazon for purchase…which is out of print so you’re buying the book second hand which also doesn’t help the author get paid.
do-gooders really should spend more time doing good than telling other people what they’re doing wrong.
Stealing is stealing and you stole the book. The author has talked about a reprint, now someone who would have bought one doesn’t need to because they have the pirated edition.
Chill out. Just go talk to Levi about it or alert the publishing company and author of the existence of this pirated version an they can send a DMCA notice right over to any places hosting it. They can also tell HomeBrewTalk to take down the link.
You’re wasting a lot of time on me when you could direct this anger toward the source of the piracy.
Levi would like to say “you’re welcome”, but he can’t seem to post on your blog? You block him?
Hey Adam, just stumbled upon your blog, just awesome! I just finished Farmhouse Ales for a second time, just a fantastic read. Glad to see the progress you’ve made in such a short amount of time! Keep up the good work!
Trying my best. Designing Beers has been eye opening. I have been doing too many kitchen sink beers. This is a “KISS” book for sure.
