After so many years of weirdness with the owner and the city of Ghent, it seems this bar is now open again. I stop in once per year and, of the 4 times I’ve visited, this was the first time the bar was actually open. The owner must have settled his issues with the city but, visually, I don’t see how that was possible. The bar is still pretty messy in almost the same state it was that I depicted in this post last year.
I took a few photos on Sunday night but, overall the place had one additional table cleaned off for patrons of the 6 tables that are available, 2 are cleared. They are barely tables and the seats are half covered with lead pipes so you sit on benches half way in order to not disturb the pipes. At one point, a piece of lumber propped against the ceiling..yes a floor to ceiling pile of 2x4s, fell down and crashed to the floor. I was there with 3 men from Greece and soon 4 Italians arrived and then suddenly, the bar was packed. He only had Omer on tap and charged me 3 Euro for a pour.
I’ll keep coming back to this place once a year but, for some reason it’s open again but who knows for how long.
