★ Homebrewing: The Brett Blueberry Saison Experiment

Blueberry Brett Saison Brewday

Today, I brewed another Saison. The “experimental saison” category in my home brewing continues. Honestly, I’ve yet to find a saison that compares to my favorites such as Hill Farmstead and Boulevard Brewing. I continue to call this category an experiment. #1 was terrible and was half drinkable. #3 wasn’t too bad and now #4 is a total Boulevard Saison Brett clone fermenting and today I am doing #6 in the series. Hopefully I get to #7 within the first 12 months of brewing. I love Saisons and would love to finally brew one I’m proud of.

The #6 experiment I brewed today is sort or an escape from the previous batches. One thing I have learned is that my favorite saisons are fermented with Brettanomyces. So from now on, I’m trying to stick with Brett for each Saison experiment.

Todays’ batch is around 6.5% estimated ABV with WLP400 and WLP653 so Im not using a Saison yeast for this one and finishing with Brett Lambicus.

Also, I added 132 ounces of Blueberries to the primary at time of pitching. My gut tells me I should have waited for secondary / end of primary fermentation to pitch brett and add blueberries but I’m curious how this will turn out.

A lot of guys read this blog that know way more about home brewing than I and that’s cool. I always appreciate the comments but I like trying new things, have a lot of free time and like beer so these sort of experiments teach me a lot from first hand experience.

Anyway, I brewed a beer with blueberries! Let’s see how it goes.
