I sort of touched on this a few times before, last in 2011 in this blog post. It hasn’t really been said here why I blog when it comes to beer. For the same reason I have other blogs, content posted here is because it’s fun to share things I’ve learned about home brewing, great beers I’ve had and travel adventures that beer has taken me. That’s why I do it.
2012 was been an amazing year. I learned so much and met some very cool people in this community. A few days ago, I posted a note on trying the top 100 beers and how many were tasted in 2012. Most notably, it was really cool to have the chance to try these while not having a tasting group for most of the year. These were bottles I got myself without really trying to get them. Seeking out beer is very stressful so I don’t play those games.
Anyway, after posting that, I received messages from 3 people who read the blog. It looks like I’ll get to try these beers in 2013 through trades that were generated on this blog. How freaking cool is that?

It seems like if I want to try any Barrel Aged Dark Lord variants, I’ll have to go after them myself. That’s a shame but understandable. These are great beers and pretty rare from what I hear.
Also via this blog, I met a guy named Ry who is going to teach me how to wash and store yeast. He lives an hour or so north of me and this will help me save some money because buying yeast packs gets expensive adding about $7 to every beer I brew. Also via this blog, I met some other local New Hampshire guys who want to start a small tasting group in the lakes regions, another guy who wanted to set up a bottle dregs sharing. So many wonderful opportunities that come to me because of the passion I show on this blog.
This is why I blog. It’s why a lot of us blog. We like to share what we learn, what we experience and a lot of times, opportunities arise through sharing. Sharing prolifically my beer experiences has made me look like a fool, a d-bag, an a-hole and someone who is terrible with having a budget but the pros outweigh the cons when it comes to sharing this experience with others.
