Acquired in a trade a while back. One of my lowest ABV stouts in the cellar so I figured a 750 by myself isn’t too bad. Enjoyed at 60F in my HFS glass.A – Poured a midnight viscous black. a 1 finger coffee head was produced and faded to just a thin line of creamy bubbles.
S – The nose is pretty weak. I get some hints of vanilla and smoke. There’s a slight bourbon character but mostly, it smells more like a porter than a stout. Very weak nose.
T – Up front, roasted dark malts, chocolate and booze. The middle is a thick oak and bourbon rush. Finish is all coffee with hints of licorice and pepper.
M – Heavy body but light carbonation. Sort of creamy like frothed milk.
O – Maybe this beer has started to fall off? Hard to tell. It’s great. Not nearly a year old yet but it just doesn’t have that oomph I expected.
