★ 600 Beer Reviews

My goal this month was to surpass last mont’s beer reviews. I did 100 in the month of July reaching 500 reviews. I ended up completing 113 reviews this month…plus or minus a few more this weekend while I’m in New York. I should hit 125 for the month of August.

This isn’t a game I know but I love a challenge and this has been a fun challenge. The cool thing about this month is that I got to visit Ommegang for their BCTC event and twice to Hill Farmstead. Then, I went to San Francisco and visited a lot of breweries that had great samplers. Finally, there was a cool HFS beer tasting at my place 2 weeks ago. This + daily drinking of 750ML bottles at my place and I ended up surpassing my goals.

I doubt I’ll get more than 125 in September and may barely make 100 since it’s a slow month with very few events or tastings planned. Either way, I’m proud of this accomplishment. Doing 1,000 for the year may not happen though but I am on track. We’ll see.

  1. I’ve rarely felt a need to review on beer websites, to be honest.  I do have a ratebeer account I started four years ago with a whopping 24 reviews.  At this point, the only time I will review something is when it leaves a particular mark in my mind (either good or bad) and it has very few reviews.

I especially don’t feel like adding my .02 on beers that already have 1,000+ reviews, like those from Russian River.  My review would just lost in the sea after only a couple days.

    1. There’s the joke that “tickers gonna tick” I find myself reviewing beers that I’ve already reviewed. I have no short term memory so I’m very bad at remembering things like this. I often re-review things which is sort of depressing.

For the ticking thing, that goes into my memory loss. I don’t remember a lot of stuff which is why I blog and review things, tweet, take lots of photos, etc. So that’s really the reason.

It also makes me want to seek out more beers so I can get the review. It’s not really about comparing the review to others. I just enjoy “the hunt”

      1. I must have a great memory.  I can recall everything I’ve ever drank, not directly, but when looking at a shelf.  I can recall what style and what (if any) uniqueness it had.  And I can especially recall if it was good or bad.  This is even with beers I haven’t had in five years, but there aren’t many decent beers that I’ve evaded for a full five years. :)
