Soon after mentioning I was going to Belgium, a few emails came asking about doing some trades while I was there. I did a trade with a beer store in Amsterdam which I believe immediately sold my bottles for 5x the markup to a customer. I hope some Dutch guy enjoys the $40 can of Heady Topper. I then did a trade with a local Gent beer lover who accompanied me to a few beer related activities that week. Finally, I did a trade with someone who works at a beer store and he immediately rated those beers and shared with friends so it’s nice to know he actually enjoyed them instead of re-trading or selling.
The store was De Hopduvel which is known as the best beer store in Gent and one of the top beer stores in Belgium. It’s a gigantic place that seems to go on forever with crates of beers organized by style and a few shelves. They also sell locally made Gent Mustard, Jams and other things like crackers. The largest glassware counter I’ve ever seen was there as well. The prices were higher than I would have liked but were very reasonable to what we pay in the US for our beer. I also picked up about half of the bottles I was bringing home at this store which is a testament to their selection. Here are a few photos.
It bothers me that the first photo is just slightly off-center.
paid 7euro for the heady topper, no worries.
