4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 adamjackson (254) – Canaan, USA – MAR 9, 2012 Got this in a trade. THANKS RYAN! Went through extreme palate cleansing tactics prior to opening it up. Poured into a Flute and Ommegang Glass (sharing with the GF). Temp is about 50 degrees F in the glass. Bottle Date: August 18th, 2011 A – Beautiful orange bronze color pouring out of the bottle. Even on a slow pour, very champagne like bubbles rose to the top of the champagne flute and produced a 3 finger crystal clear head that subsided to a half a finger creamy line of bubbles on the top. In the glass, the beer resembles that of peach pulp with a perfect orange to brown haze and light clear bubbles around the edges of the glass. S – Very light tartness on a first whiff. Delicious peach juice scent and some hints of tangerines and floral like lavender or rose petals. Of course there’s apricot but I’m getting peach. On the nose a very tart feeling hits the back of my nostrils and sticks around for a while. Very pleasant and not overpowering. T – Naturally, the sour and tart hit the tongue first but they’re not intense like most Lambics I’ve had. The 2nd bit is a waft of apricot. More of those really great floral scents. The tartness doesn’t stick around very long. It’s gone pretty fast. The traditional over tartness I get from non-Cantillons just isn’t here. It’s balanced, hints of very juicy fruits and terrific tartness. M – The beer converts entirely to carbonation on a single mouth swish and more apricot pulp flavors are released on that swish. Linger is orange and tart and it fades away after a minute or so. O – Sorry for the long review but I may never get this beer again. I may have hyped it up in my head a bit too much but this is still a phenomenal beer and one of the best lambics I’ve had…possibly #1. |
