★ Monthly Vermont Beer Roadtrip – 6 Hours, 279 Miles, a lot of wonderful beer!

Once a month, I go on a small road trip. I leave the house at 8AM and head North to visit a few breweries. On April 21st, I took this trip:

You can map it yourself on Google maps (link). I start in Canaan where I live and visit the following places:

  • Montpelier Farmer’s Market. This is the only place to buy Lawson’s Finest Liquids direct from Sean and with a bottle limit of 4 per type of beer. Nearby stores cap it at two bottles total but you can get 12-16 from here and enough to last the month
  • Then, I’ll stop by the Warren Store for some more Lawson’s if I need it. It’s not too far out of the way.
  • From Warren, I head north to Waterbury. No limit there at the Alchemist cannery as I’ll get a case or two of Heady Topper
  • Then, it’s through Morrisville Vermont for a stop at Rock Art Brewery. They have some great beers and a lot of their beers are hard to find but almost always plentiful at the brewery.
  • Finally, I hit Greensboro Vermont to visit Shaun Hill at Hill Farmstead Brewery. I get a few of whatever is new in bottles or 750ml growlers.

As a beer lover, I’m very lucky to live in the area. I don’t live in Vermont but I’m a short ride away from some delicious beers! Often times, I have friends south of me that can’t make it up so I get beers for them as well. I’m almost always picking up things for friends. I’m young with no kids so a 6 hour drive around Vermont for beers is fun and I always get photos of the country-side on these drives.

It was a great day! I have a story before sharing photos from the day:

I was being a little adventurous and decided to take Swamp Road to save 5 minutes off my trip to Hill Farmstead. This is what that road looked like:

A long road
Swamp Road, Greensboro, VT

It was a relaxing 5 minutes drive until I got stuck in the mud just a few feet from a literal swamp covered with beaver dams. I heard the road went all the way through but a local who attempted to pull me out of the swamp said this road had been closed for a while. Oh well.

Luckily, I got a ride up to Hill Farmstead and, was about to call my roadside assistance group when Shaun Hill and his Dad offered to help me out. They got me out of the mud and back to the brewery where I bought a ton of great beers and chatted with the employees there who are always awesome and helpful. This is the first time a world-class brewery has helped me get my car out of a swamp and I’m forever grateful. I’ll just have to buy more of their beers to say thanks. NO PROBLEM! Now, some photos:

  1. Disregard my post to your Hill Farmstead review ahead of this one.  I meant to post it here.

I love this post, Adam.  The pictures are beautiful and you capture the best of Vermont beer.  I’ve shared it with a few of my local beer lovers here in Burlington.  I do hope you take Taylor Road next time you travel to Hill Farmstead. :)
