In 2010, I was in Miami for Ultra Music Festival when it was announced that the event was completely sold out. This was the first time that had ever happened. Following the announcement, it was said that 2011 would be a 3 day festival instead of 2 so they could accommodate more people. I promised to attend the following year and I did.
In 2011, it was February 28th when the 3 day festival sold out. Less than a month from the event and shortly after the Phase 2 lineup was announced, there were no more tickets available. This was the first time the festival sold out before the event started.
Now, it’s 2012 and I just received an email from Ultra Music Festival that, as of January 10th (2.5 months before the event), all tickets are completely gone.
This is astounding. I was at Ultra in 2004 when the festival started Friday at 5PM and ended Saturday at midnight. The event was smaller with less people but was still a fantastic event. It’s remarkable to see how much it has grown in the last 8 years. I imagine a 4th day will be added in the coming years and the ticket prices will continue to go up. Myself and my friend Ben acquired our tickets in October. I remember texting him while I was in DC with my Visa card number asking to buy tickets for me since Pre-sale were just announced. We were in the first batch of tickets. We paid $149 each + $12 for shipping + $77 in service fees. The total for two Ultra tickets in $389.37.
It’s not a cheap festival anymore. Early bird tickets used to cost $49 but that was a long time ago. I’m looking forward to Ultra this year and am utterly amazed that tickets are sold out already. This is going to be a great festival!
