It was July 21st and I was stoked to see a few photos of the Star Wars themed Xbox 360. The console has the color pattern and design of R2D2 and the controllers come in a C3PO gold colored plastic. Also, a white Kinect and the Kinect Star Wars. The price of that console is $450 and it ships on December 31st. I had already pre-ordered mine because most Star Wars fans will buy this and simply put it in a closet never opening it. I planned on using mine but admit that $450 is too much considering I currently have an Xbox 360. What do I currently have?
The 2009 Xbox 360 Elite Modern Warefare 2 edition was the first Xbox with a 250GB HDD which I never use and a nice black paint job with custom painting that looks fantastic. Also, the controllers are black and it has HDMI.It’s a great console and has never given me any issues but, I do realize with Xbox 360s, the red ring of death is only a matter of time even with my special Nyko air unit that adds 4 times as much air flow to the console to reduce over-heating. The Xbox 360 has more life and I was really set on the Star Wars Console. $450 for an upgrade to a cool console with a cool new game and a special Kinect. It was a good deal so I committed to spending the $450 to upgrade. I planned on keeping the other model and sending that to my spare bedroom along with my current Sony LCD display (40″) that will soon be replaced by a 60″ Samsung model and a Harmon Kardon Soundbar once the price drops a little bit lower.
There’s one small detail that also makes that extra money for the Star Wars Themed Xbox seem a bit pointless. Well, some of the cost is the pretty white Kinect that comes bundled and it turns out that my GF bought a Kinect for me last week as a birthday present. It was $150 and that price is lumped into the Star Wars Price but I have a Kinect now and don’t need it. Buying the Star Wars Kinect would be an extra cause rebuying a second Kinect when I only need one.
Today, things changed a bit. I saw a post from Gizmodo highlighting a special edition Modern Warfare 3 Xbox 360. It looks AWESOME. The paint job rocks, the controllers look nice and it has something that I was really looking forward to in a new Xbox. It’s the dedicated Kinect port so I can free up my USB port for my Turtle Beach Headset. Currently, I can’t use the Turtle Beach Headset while the Kinect is plugged in on my old Elite console. This kind of sucks so it’ll be nice to free up that port with the new Xbox. The Modern Warfare 3 Xbox has a few additional perks. A) I’m saving $60 as the MW3 comes with the console which is a game I was going to buy anyway. B) The Kinect I already own and this console doesn’t come with one. The price of the special edition console is $399. Sure, it doesn’t come with a Kinect and thus, comparing $399 for MW3 and $450 for Star Wars Edition, the later seems like a better deal but, already having a Kinect and already pre-ordering MW3 the game, this works out pretty well as I can keep my Kinect and cancel that pre-order.
Also, I just think it’ll be cool to have the MW2 Console in my bedroom and the MW3 Console in the living room. What do you guys think? More MW3 Console Details (via Major Nelson)
