★ Let’s Talk about The Internet Kill-Switch

San Francisco Shopping District

Last month, the Egyptian government killed Internet and cellular service to the country. This week, a similar thing happened in Libia where Internet connectivity was reduced and, in both cases, this crippled the citizen efforts to get the word out, interact with their groups and organize. It essentially made the uprising impossible.

This will one day happen in our nation.

I believe this will happen in America. The liberal versus conservative battle wages on in a way that I’d consider is a civil war in the making even though I think the nation’s obesity rate is keeping people from actually starting fights. Who wants to get out of breath when we have blogs and Twitter to talk about how much the other side sucks? The nation’s deficit and spending is out of control and unemployment continues to rise. The major cities all have slums that rarely get national coverage but we all know about tent city and foreclosure rates while our banking and public figures make money hand over fist for doing nothing more than gaming the system and putting people out on the streets. Our hard working americans are being laid off with overseas jobs and the laziness of Americans is causing our health care system and it’s price to collapse and this health care system that Obama proposes is noble. I hoped it would work but I now fear that our unhealthy life cycle will bring down the government. I believe that people were being denied coverage and rates were rising because we, as Americans are so unhealthy. I believe that our government taking on this burden will lead to its fall.

This will not end well.

One day in the next 20 years, we’ll rise up and our government will selectively take down services like mobile phones, social media or the entire Internet and it will cripple us.

For better or worse, there are too many private governments with financial ties to our government to take down the entire Internet. I’m sure you’ll still be able to buy things on Amazon and trade stocks via E-Trade and the advertising networks will stay afloat but the services you need to interact with others will be dead and anything you send out will be monitored by our government who’s just trying to subdue anything that’s going to or about to happen.

Why is this concept so far fetched?

You better get a phone-tree setup because that may be the only way to get the word out when that day comes. Things are getting worse in America and the revolution will neither be televised or shared on Facebook. The revolution will be word of mouth because everything else is on one grid that can be taken out with the turn of a key.
