Well, this whole dirt bike thing is causing me a lot of issues. just mostly around getting it road ready. Lots of crap done by the previous owner and now I'm doing basic modifications and it's costing me more downtime. broke something installing LED Turn signals last night. IDK what.
Dirt bike helmet arrived. It breathes incredibly well..very loud though but will be great off road. Shoei is done inspecting my helmet. I hope it's still safe to use?
My new motorcycle requires a key to start unlock my other two vehicles. Went to ride it and realized I didn't have the key in my jacket. Hunt begins. sigh.
Her: "Who are you talking to?"
Me: "Final Cut Pro"
took the beta apart. heather was not happy "i can't get to my beer because your bike crap is in the way again"
I went as far north as you can go via road in Quebec / Labrador. Then I came home. What an amazing trip.
I bought a motorcycle today. My R1200 GS Adventure has a little brother. A 2016 Beta RR-S 500.
My last MacBook Pro, Late - 2013 was a 2nd generation retina. I used to order new laptops every year then I discovered hobbies and money sort of got thrown into other directions. the MBP purchase came at the start of my beer hobby and way before motorcycling and more travel. This is going to be a huge upgrade for me. Haswell Core i7 w/ ddR2 to DDR4, 6-cores, higher clock speed, etc. very excited.

5 days away from the office. Still about 2 hours of actual work per day but it's feeling pretty good.
I've been spending a lot more time at work lately working on really cool things, more time than ever but it's been so much fun to do what we're doing.
Dirt Daze was a blast. 4 weeks till I go camping again.
Time for more camping! this time volunteering at a dirt biking event.
Another weekend of camping, life is good!
My sister graduates from high school tomorrow.
My motorcycle instructor when I first got my license said if you don't drink, if you ride below your limit and you wear a helmet, your likelihood of dying on a motorcycle is almost zero. This was possibly an experienced rider but they were drinking and she wasn't wearing a helmet and if she leaned against the bike as the rider says she did, she wasn't given proper instruction on how to be a rider. You don't just let someone hop on your bike without knowing some basic principles. Tragic. The rider was at fault here.
Today, I called a 15 year old at a high school in Ontario and asked him to stop using my email to buy games, sign up for 5K runs and in his email to Apple Support. He was freaked out but turns out it was a typo on his part.
I've been watching Atlanta lately. Started last week. Shows with great writing and even better art direction pull me in. When a shot is just so captivating, so well thought that it makes me forget about the weaker parts of the scene, I have to play it back and I do that in Atlanta a lot. I also love how the show follows 'day in the life' of a single character that builds up their world-view but without focusing on episodes as linked in a linear way. Atlanta seems to be closer to mini-docu-series around a set of characters and jumps around in various stages of their life. In researching more about the head writer, I learn this guy Donald has been working on things that I've enjoyed for years. I enjoy his music (just started listening today) but also his writing and EP work goes back 10 years. I've been a fan of this guy before I even knew who he was.
54F. That’s the minimum temp for my neighbor to ride his Harley
4 digits: ~13min worst (~6.5avg)
6 digits: ~22.2hrs worst (~11.1avg)
8 digits: ~92.5days worst (~46avg)
10 digits: ~9259days worst (~4629avg)
My iOS Passcode greatly exceeds 13 characters (not digits...characters and is not a dictionary word or term). Guess I'm safe?
This was my largest blog post ever. 90 megabytes.
Facebook is not Microsoft. People needed Microsoft to get work done and for the economy to flourish. We needed computers and Microsoft Office and a web-browser. We don't need Facebook. We don't need a chat client, blog, vlog, live video, marketplace, photo sharing site all in one.
"Hey can I get a copy of that file?" My first thought was going to dropbox...WTF is wrong with me. I have my own server. Launched transmit and dropped it there -http:/
It's Mid-April and we're still having snow and 20 degree temps every day. Over it.
I find a nice motorcycle to buy and fix up for Heather. I commit to buy it. Get insurance started, rent a trailer, spend 8 hours researching maintenance items and getting a shopping list ready of things to grab to check on maintenance, reach out to a wheel shop to repair the bent front wheel, call BMW to setup a pre-purchase inspection and agree to meet the seller this weekend just waiting on him to get back to me with a time.
I email at 11AM (12 hours after we last spoke) "what time do you want to meet Saturday?" 4 hours later "The bike is sold. Thanks"
It took a lot of self-control to remain professional. Considering I emailed him 19 minutes after his listing was live and spent 8+ hours of my own time lining everything up to buy it.
If you bought WB1040607T04 in 2018 from a guy in NY. I hope the bike treats you well. I would have liked to give it to my sister next year for her trip to Alaska. would have been a great graduation gift. enjoy.
Back home, rested, well back at work. Vacation was good. But I have 700 gigabytes of data over 6 days of riding. My home iMac with 8-4Ghz processors is taking a full 24 hours to transcode everything (715 files) so I can actually edit it in Final Cut Pro. Wish I could afford an iMac Pro.
FedEx Home Delivery is a sham. 3 of these packages in the last 3 months. Each time, the tracking is wrong and it's 3 days later than it's supposed to be. A box due to me on Saturday is finally out for delivery on Wednesday after being "loaded on truck for delivery" since Saturday.
I ordered from a company on a Thursday in PA. It's here on Wednesday...that's California shipping times.
Alternatively, I put another order in with the same company on Monday and asked they use USPS. The USPS box arrived today..hours before FedEx home delivery. 2 days from PA to NH via USPS with up to date tracking. FedEx Home Delivery 5 days and confusing tracking. Even went to FedEx yesterday and they couldn't find the box and said it must be out for delivery...it wasn't.
No longer feeling sick...that was a long 3 weeks. Hopefully I'm done for the year!
Of course the bike needs a $4,000 suspension upgrade.
10 days ago I got sick. I'm still draining. UGH.
That’s the percentage of Americans who are going with cremation after death, up from less than 5 percent of Americans in 1980."
That's because people finally realize the imminent threat of zombies.
Surprise, 4-winter tires purchased in February! YAY, $600 later. sigh.
Back at work, dripping nostrils. Fun.
Been sick for 3 days now. Awful.
We cannot under-estimate the importance of Sam Rockwell and Gary Oldman each winning an Oscar this year. Two accomplished character actors who have spend decades in the industry are finally up to get their gold.
What the heck is going on? back in the day, rude people would touch your display with their fingers to point at things. Really bothersome..these days, people actually touch my MacBook pro display to manipulate objects like it's an iPad. I've had people pinch, zoom and scroll on my display 5 times in the last 7 days. A MacBoo is not an iPad!
55 today and 68F tomorrow. WOW>
Saturday at 7AM. "On FedEx Vehicle for Delivery"..Delivered by Tuesday
sigh. oh well, that was going to be a weekend project. 7:55AM "Sorry we missed you" there's a note on the door that they came and will re-attempt on Tuesday.
Today was a great day already. Got a company to stop sending me spam after 2 weeks of being spammed. Pentawards is a law-breaker on EU spam laws and I hope they get fined.
Incredibly happy to discover that Luther season 5 is filming now.
Ordered an AppleTV 4K..they finally hit the refurb store so I got one + AppleCare for less than MSRP on a new one. Finally some 4K on my 4K TV.
"check my baby momma" in my head for close to a week now.... help. https:/
That little bit of warm weather that makes you thinkWinter is over...nope probably 3 more months.
2018 has been so excruciatingly busy. Leave work to work on a 2nd project and then saturdays in school and still keeping up with youtube and flickr...the blog is suffering. I'm sorry. Lots of unfinished posts.
done with bike mods for 4 weeks. Sort of feels good to be at a finish-line for now. Once powder-coating is done, i can assemble the new luggage racks and put on new tires.
3 Hours last night pulling snow off the roof 26 feet in the air on a ladder. The body is sore, for sure! Sort of dire as we have 3 days above freezing temps so I'm hoping that all of the residual snow gets melted off and I can finally make solar power again.
My war against lazy developers that don't update their change-logs is ramping up. "bug fixes and performance improvements" isn't enough anymore. If you want me to use 150 megabytes of data, you need to tell me what I'm getting for that.
Can MacRumors go back to posting rumors about macintosh? At the very least, can they re-brand to be called AppleNews or something like that? The site name and brand is so old-school and they wonder why their comments are so divided. Half of the users are old guys like me who are loyal to Apple and Macintosh and the rest of iOS fanboys who think the Mac is old and outdated.
Going back to school tomorrow.
22F. Shorts weather! Short lived though because it'll be -22 on Saturday.
Missed a new year post. Sorry. It's -18F in NH right now. It hasn't been above 0 in days. Almost got frostbite changing the GSW oil in the front yard. BRRR.
Florida New Hampshire in 23 hours. Two of which was gas, food, dog walking. Exhausted. 1300+ miles in a day. 5:30AM. Asleep in my bed.
"which hot sauce do you want packed for the trip?" Very considerate GF we have over here.
Apple.com...pretty telling. If you go to https:/
Total Beers in the cellar: 1000+ sheesh.
4PM and it's dark.
I had a great weekend in NYC. I return to a $350 bill for 12 months of VPS hosting which honestly is not bad for a dedicated server + 2 SSL certificates but it still stings a bit.
Acquired my first media badge in a decade. Feels good.
Big 2018 planned for biking, Prince Edward Island, Trans-Labrador Highway, Puppy Dog Route w/o any breaks and maybe a trip down to Asheville.
Thanksgiving week! Looking forward to a little peace and quiet around these parts.
Battery tender ordered. Winter is almost here.
50% chance that we'll see half an inch of snow today...I rode my motorcycle. YOLO?
Trying to sell a car part online, "I’ll give you $70 right now for it?" I'm going to reply to them in 5 days and ask if their offer has expired.
Updated the CMS for this thing to the latest version. Looks like they optimized the design for retina displays (finally) and text smoothing looks better. Should have taken a screenshot.
November. Still riding! Love it. This time last year, I was about to ride down to florida. Not doing that this year.
Switched from Ulysses to IA Writer. Looking forward to not seeing a subscription prompt every time I open an application I paid for.
My MacBook Pro will be 4 years old in March. I've had this notebook longer than any other computer in daily operation.
Snow on the forecast....
Stuck @ Home today with the dog.
Friday, weekend time. Halloween motorcycle ride planning?
Easily my favorite Steve-Note only because how raw it was and unrehearsed.
Low of 31 tonight. WOOT!
Like TARS, can we turn down Siri's enthusiasm in iOS11? It's not that exciting to turn off my lights and lock the doors. I want a more dry assistant that just reacts and hears my commands. Not one that's chawing at the bits to serve me.
Closed on my house a year ago today.
What a crazy two weeks. Huge work event, then finished the Hamster. Drag racing tomorrow and last BMW Rally of the season on Friday - Sunday then beer tasting with Chris Sunday. No time for anything else but work.
Finished the Hamster. Amazing day. I have blisters on my hands and my legs are still like gelatin.
I aim to finish the hamster tomorrow.
Going to be a super great week!
Tim Cook, "As a CEO, not only today but in the past as well, I think silence is the ultimate consent. If you see something going on that’s not right, the most powerful form of consent is to say nothing. I think that’s not acceptable to your company, to the team that works so hard for your company, for your customers, or for your country. Or for each country that you happen to be operating in.”
This is definitely one of those quotes that will survive long after Tim is CEO of Apple or living on this Earth.

iOS11. I'll never use all of these new features but it seems nice enough. I truly do not like the app-switcher, new notifications, control panel or the iPad Pro's dock. i don't disable new features though and like to let them grow on me with time. The under the hood improvements of iOS11 w/ security and privacy are very welcome. I am also very interested in having iCloud Photos talk between devices to save compute cycles.
It's taking 6 hours total to upgrade every devices in my house to the latest iOS update.
