Some of the greatest breweries and the best beer bars / restaurants that pair so well with the already flourishing Vermont pride for local, sustainable and community supported initiatives. I’m not a Vermonter although I feel like one sometimes. I’m about 10 miles from the Vermont border so find that I spend most of my time (and money) in The Green Mountain State.

Any time I want Hill Farmstead on tap, the nearest place is Montpelier which is the state’s capital. Three Penny Taproom and Skinny Pancake quench my thirst. 15 minutes north of Montpelier, is The Alchemist Cannery proudly making Heady Topper. West of The Alchemist is Waitsfield / Fayston where you can find Lawson’s Finest Liquids. North into Burlington and you’ll pass Prohibition Pig, Blackback Pub and eventually reach Farmhouse Tap & Grill. This state is flourishing with great places to see.

Now, Central Vermont has a beer bar and it’s 20 minutes from my house. It’s heaven and it’s called Worthy Burger. This restaurant opened up late-Summer and it’s making waves. If the over 1,000 Facebook likes are any indication, it may be the most liked place in all of South Royalton. Over 12 taps, thousands of burger combinations and a rewards club that, after 50 beers & 50 burgers gives you a free baseball cap.

Okay, so the 50/50 WB Club isn’t all that exciting, this group is doing great things. Have you ever heard of Blind Tiger Ale House? Worthy Burger is owned by the same guys and it’s tucked away in a tiny town off Interstate 89 in Vermont. This also means, to those Boston & NYC guys who head to Montpelier to get Lawson’s and Heady Topper, a quick stop off at Worthy Burger on the way home is a MUST to complete your Vermont beer-cation.

Elizabeth and I have gone 3 times in the past 3 weeks and I always get the Worthy Burger with Kimchee, Blue Cheese, grilled onions, hot pickles and spicy mustard. They have a catch of the day fish, veggie burgers and they cook their fries in animal fat so you get the best oily crispy hand cut fries EVER. Their pickled dishes and condiments are all made in house oh and they have beer!

Last time I was there, it was Hill Farmstead Ephraim, Abner, George and Edward with Lawson’s Fayston. They have soon to put Hill Farmstead Arthur on Tap with selections from breweries all over New England and even beer from Sixpoint, Founders and other great craft beer breweries.

The service rocks, prices are great and I love going to this joint. For me, it’s now the nearest place to my house that has HIll Farmstead on tap and that’s terrific. The taps change all of the time and the atmosphere is really great.

So, Worthy Burger. Go check it out!

Vermont is slowly becoming The beer capital of America.
