Technically Novi but I’m a n00b so let’s just all agree it was Detroit.

I ate lunch alone because my cup was starting to run over a bit with human interaction. I know it looked weird to sit alone but I just needed some silence. Completely worth it. I just stared outside and ate my sandwich and the slice of cheesecake which I knew at the time was not a good idea. I loved it. Tasted great but the 450 calories could have been avoided.

Day 2 of training was great. I’m not a huge fan of role-playing but everyone played along which made it much better. We’re all dorks together which worked out. Then a mad dash to the airport for the 2nd flight in a row I arrive right as the TSA agent tells the desk no more checked luggage. I generally like dropping off bags about 10 minutes before boarding starts and really should stop that. The United Gold Status and Pre Check status allow really fast travel time to the gate but a checked bag makes that quickness a moot point. I’ll remember that next time. Detroit traffic is something I completely underestimated but thank goodness the Lyft driver was okay with skipping the designated rideshare area at DTW and dropping me off right at the ticketing counter. That would have been a fail otherwise.

I’m back home last night at 1AM and okay..I should have written this on the plane but on the first leg to IAD, I was sitting next to a man about 45 years older than me who refused to keep his legs to himself while his warm calf rested on mine for 90 minutes and severely heated up my usually chilly legs (gross) and never conceded the arm rest either. Even the iPad Pro + Brydge Pro combo were no match for how cramped the seating was. United Economy Plus really should be wider. seats, not more leg room. I’m good on the legs now but I need a place to put both arms. The second flight, my body was curved along the fine edge of the exterior of the aircraft. I love window seats but these 45 seat regional planes force my tall torso to conform the they’re architectural design and therefore typing was once again impossible.

I get home, for the first time ever don’t unpack the car, lob my shoes across the room and crawl into bed. Up at 6AM for a meeting and this is the first time in 20 days that I haven’t gotten my 7.5 hours of sleep that allows me to wake up without an alarm clock.

It’s going to be a pretty busy October and so let’s just see how long I can keep this blog going. I’m already enjoying it but part of the allure of my job now means I’m better off keeping many of this internal dialogue to myself. Will this blog end up biting me over time? Should I keep it completely on-topic to tech and management? I spend all day doing that and it’s nice to just blog like I used to again. We’ll see.

My out of nowhere commitment to write every (work)day failed yesterday when I awoke at 7:30AM, showered and…

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[6

0":"post-8070","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-life","7":"cs-entry","8":"cs-video-wrap
It's been a long time since I've written but this is the first day in months that I've wrapped up email and to-do lists before it was time to go to bed.
