{"id":6212,"date":"2016-09-07T19:17:24","date_gmt":"2016-09-07T19:17:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adamchandler.me\/blog\/?p=6212"},"modified":"2016-10-17T19:10:17","modified_gmt":"2016-10-17T19:10:17","slug":"not-certain-ill-buy-a-series-2-apple-watch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adamchandler.me\/blog\/2016\/09\/07\/not-certain-ill-buy-a-series-2-apple-watch\/","title":{"rendered":"Not certain I\u2019ll buy a Series 2 Apple Watch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m not made of money and while I\u2019d love to own a Series 2 Ceramic Apple Watch Edition or Space Black Stainless Steel Link Bracelet (<a href=\"https:\/\/adamchandler.me\/blog\/2015\/05\/21\/technology-hello-apple-watch\/\">I own the Series 1 SS Link in Space Black today<\/a>), I\u2019m looking on eBay and my feeling is mixed.<\/p>\n<p>New, and sealed in box, the $1099 Apple Watch I bought in May of last year is selling for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.com\/itm\/NEW-Apple-WATCH-42mm-Space-Black-Stainless-Steel-Case-Link-Bracelet-MJ482LL-A-\/152171057288?hash=item236e1a1088:g:u10AAOSw0fhXi8Nx\">$700 on average<\/a>. Used, they are selling for only <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.com\/itm\/Apple-Watch-42mm-Space-Black-Stainless-Steel-Case-with-Space-Black-Link-Bracelet-\/191963288311?hash=item2cb1e752f7:g:Z7MAAOSw-kdXygCN\">$420-$550<\/a>. This is technology. That\u2019s how the world works, why complain?<\/p>\n<p>Well, since my first iBook in 2001 that I bought outright, I\u2019ve only faced at 25% depreciation on Apple hardware at the most. I usually buy a computer for 2 grand and lose $500 selling it after ownership for 3 years. My iPhones I usually will make back 80% of what I paid after a year and 75% after 2 years.<\/p>\n<p>The Apple Watch however, despite being announced 2 years ago, didn\u2019t go on sale until May of 2015. I received mine at the end of May so in 14 months, I\u2019ve suffered a 50% depreciation on my device. To sell it for $500, pay another 10% in miscellaneous fees and shipping only to turn around and spend $1100 for the latest and greatest feels like a stretch for me.<\/p>\n<p>This could be the first time I bow out of upgrading on a yearly basis for an Apple device. On the other hand, my depreciation will become even more severe if I wait until next Fall to upgrade.
