I don’t have any “likes” on any pages yet Facebook still says I do. I also don’t have any photos or personal info but I was tagged in a lot of photos so that still shows up. In short, Facebook is a wide distribution list & email manager because, as I’ve said before, no one emails me anymore. Everyone Facebook messages me. It’s a shame because I prefer email much more.

Anyway, I have my Facebook safety settings setup to approve all tags so I have an action manager in FB that lets me approve everything. I deny all tags these days because there’s no point. If you want me to have a photo you took of me, email it to me (says the curmudgeon old man that I am).

I noticed something new in the past few days which is pretty annoying:

Now, I clicked “Hide” on all of these. But what about my friend who added me to Hanover, NH as my hometown. I don’t live in Hanover but I also don’t want to put on my Facebook where I live. Those who know me, know where I live and have an easy time finding it. All of this data removal from Facebook is so I don’t see advertisements.

If you unlike everything, remove all personal info, connected apps and block all tags, apps and games, you actually experience an ad-less Facebook. I don’t have advertisements and it’s awesome. See, Facebook needs to know about you in order to serve you ads. I’ve given them nothing!

But, now that my friend added me to a city, is that auto recognized now to serve me ads? My profile still doesn’t list a hometown and I haven’t seen local ads but we’ll see if that changes. If you go to my sister’s FB page, you’ll see this:

So, Facebook still accepts her statement that I’m her brother and clicking “Hide” just puts that status to pending with no way for her to delete that pending. It’s just stuck unless you deletes me and re-adds me again and I click accept. I’m a little upset that FB lets people add you as family or list where you live. I think that’s a big deal. If I don’t want FB to know that, explicitly don’t add it and FB is letting people put down information about me, I don’t appreciate that. Facebook is basically saying, “don’t want to give us any info, we’ll get it ourselves”

Not cool.

My Facebook profile is locked down to nothing now.
