I’ll never know someone else’s requirements, environment, or priorities as well as they do. I don’t know shit about Windows or Outlook or architecture.You should use whatever works for you. And I no longer have the patience or hubris to convince you what that should be. All I can offer is one data point: what I use, and how it works for me.

I am exactly the same way. I wasn’t always a passive person when it came to technology and I recommend many products here on my blog and via Twitter and get dozens of emails a month from people thanking me for the insight but I don’t recommend a product in person or directly. In fact, I’ve had a friend quote a recent blog post and ask the same question I already answered publicly and I automatically resort to, “buy what you want and what works for you.” and they call me out, “but you said last week that this product is the best.” Oh well.

The issue I have is that I make a recommendation and suddenly I am the single point of contact for that product for that person. This happened a lot when I was at Apple and now that I work for another technology company. I don’t recommend the competition but I encourage friends to get the system that works best for them and I keep tech support numbers handy if they have any issues. It seems cold and selfish but if I were to offer tech support to everyone that needed a recommendation, I’d spend hours a day answering questions for friends.

I don’t LOVE Apple products and I prefer Windows but I, like Marco appreciate that Apple’s system is more fun, reliable and trustworthy. You’re limited in what you can do but the experience is better.

Marco Arment: Previous-me tried to persuade everyone to switch to my setup, but I now know that it’s…

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
"_jetpack_featured_image_duplicate_dismissed":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[7

post-3315","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","category-linked","cs-entry","cs-video-wrap
I'm going to begin pissing everyone off by becoming a Facebook Connect Evangelist.
