Ask yourself this: ten years into the post-9\/11 era, haven’t we had enough of ourselves?\u00a0 If we have any respect for history or humanity or decency left, isn’t it time to rip the Band-Aid off the wound, to remove 9\/11 from our collective consciousness?\u00a0 No more invocations of those attacks to explain otherwise inexplicable wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and our\u00a0oh-so-global<\/a> war\u00a0on terror<\/a>. No more invocations of 9\/11 to keep the Pentagon and the national security state flooded with money. No more invocations of 9\/11 to justify every encroachment on liberty, every new step in the surveillance of Americans, every advance in pat-downs and wand-downs and strip downs that keeps\u00a0fear high<\/a> and the\u00a0homeland security state<\/a> afloat.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The facts of 9\/11 are, in this sense, simple enough. It was\u00a0not <\/em>a nuclear attack. It was\u00a0not<\/em> apocalyptic<\/a>. The cloud of smoke where the towers stood was\u00a0no<\/em> mushroom cloud. It was\u00a0not<\/em> potentially civilisation-ending. It did\u00a0not<\/em> endanger the existence of our country – or even of New York City. Spectacular as it looked and staggering as the casualty figures were, the operation was hardly more technologically advanced than the\u00a0failed attack<\/a> on a single tower of the World Trade Center in 1993 by Islamists using a rented Ryder truck packed with explosives.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

I have to agree not because I am an enemy of this great country but, when you educate yourself and open your eyes to the world outside of The US, you realize that we are showing our selfishness, self-centered personality in the 9\/11 memorial as the one great country. We see ourselves as the center of the universe in this country and the devastation that took place 10 years ago doesn’t compare to so many other events this world has seen. It’s time to move on.<\/p>\n

More people are spending time capitalizing on the event than truly memorializing it anyway.<\/p>\n
