{"id":2502,"date":"2011-06-08T17:25:20","date_gmt":"2011-06-08T21:25:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/adam-jackson.net\/blog\/?p=2502"},"modified":"2011-06-08T17:25:20","modified_gmt":"2011-06-08T21:25:20","slug":"why-you-should-move-away-from-a-place-before-you-turn-into-an-ass","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adamchandler.me\/blog\/2011\/06\/08\/why-you-should-move-away-from-a-place-before-you-turn-into-an-ass\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2605 Why you should move away from a place before you turn into an ass&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/uptownalmanac.com\/2011\/06\/there-any-good-coffee-around-here\">via Uptown Almanac<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><!-- p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 16.0px 0.0px; line-height: 32.0px; font: 16.0px Helvetica; color: #4b4e53} --><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>lf standing on the corner of 22nd and Valencia early on Saturday morning.\u00a0 It was 7:30am and I was staring at the bright blue sky wondering what I ever did to deserve the torture of being up that early.\u00a0 Suddenly, a hideously light blue BMW convertible [not pictured] pulled up next to me, breaking my meditative self-loathing.<\/p>\n<p>A short, skinny bald man wearing a bluetooth emerged from behind the vehicle&#8217;s tinted windows.\u00a0 He was not bald in a menacing, skin-head way, but bald in the &#8220;I have nothing to show for my life other than my money&#8221; sort of way.\u00a0 He leaned out the window and yelled in my general direction, &#8220;Excuse me, is there a Starbucks or any good coffee around here?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Startled by the question, I figured I was being trolled by a friend and, in my head, quickly ran through everyone I knew and tried to recall if any of them recently aged 10 years and came into a lot of money. Nope, this man was actually asking if there was any good coffee around the Mission.\u00a0 I let out a quick laugh, suggesting he was a fucking moron, pointed towards 16th and replied, &#8220;You should be able to find something in your price range along Valencia.&#8221;\u00a0 With that, he thanked me and drove off.<\/p>\n<p>For the following hour, I kept going over this troubling interaction in my head, which was a subject much more enjoyable to ponder than my insomnia.\u00a0 In the four years I have spent in this town, I have been asked all sorts of things: &#8220;Where are the great murals around here?&#8221; &#8220;Where would you recommend I go for a burrito?&#8221; &#8220;What&#8217;s the cheapest beer around?&#8221; But never once &#8220;is there a Starbucks or any good coffee around here?&#8221;\u00a0 He didn&#8217;t even ask &#8220;where&#8217;s good coffee around here?&#8221; he <em>specifically<\/em> said &#8220;<strong>is there <\/strong>[..] any good coffee around here?,&#8221; suggesting the neighborhood might not even have a decent cup of joe for him to waste his money on.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Maybe it&#8217;s just my personality but I would never have the external or internal dialogue that this guy had. I would say, &#8220;of course!&#8221; and direct the guy to a great coffee shop.
