This photo was taken today while hanging out with my friend Liana at the cabin. We had just finished lunch and it was almost time to clean dishes. Duvel is a new beer that I’ve really taken a liking to. It’s a Belgian Ale that I had while in Amsterdam. There are a few Belgian beers I can’t get in the states which gives me a reason to go back to Amsterdam.<\/p>\n

You\u2019re telling a story.<\/em><\/p>\n

Whether you know it or not, or intend to or not \u2026 you absolutely are.<\/em><\/p>\n

Everything you do to market your business is another paragraph, page, or chapter in the story people\u00a0hearfrom you. And the story people\u00a0hear is the one they act (or don\u2019t act) on, and repeat (or don\u2019t repeat) to others.<\/em><\/p>\n

Now, it\u2019s not necessarily fatal if you\u2019re not aware you\u2019re telling a story, and you\u2019ll never completely control your story anyway. But purposeful storytelling is the mark of the great novelist, screenwriter, and playwright, and purposeful marketing stories are a sure sign of a great\u00a0content marketer<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

So why not tell your story on purpose?<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This is what I do for companies day to day. It’s also what I do here for my personal brand. Every person I meet at my job has read this blog post<\/a> that was written before my move to New Hampshire. That post has become my calling card when meeting new people in the organization. “You’re the guy that wrote that awesome blog post about moving, right?” The great thing about that post is that it’s exactly what I’m doing for my day to day at work. I’m telling a story, sharing and building our customer loyalty.<\/p>\n

That post was telling the story.<\/p>\n

Anyone who’s working in this business of social media, marketing, PR and even those who are starting their own company should read that post linked at the top of the blog. Even if you’re just working on your personal brand, remember that you’re always telling a story. My photos, tweets, random posts, polished posts and location check-ins are all a part of my story.
