Linked: “2016 — the year social media died.”

via James Watt on Medium:

Another toll on our psyche is the endless revelations about our personal privacy being trampled on. Companies and governments spy on us in ways even most pre-Internet dystopian authors would have never imagined. In the guise of “advertising”, companies listen to our phones and TVs even when they are off, scan our text messages and follow our GPS locations to see what stores we shop and where we go. And the government has full access to all of this information about you, without your consent or knowledge, thanks to the Patriot Act. Ironically, even Mark Zuckerberg puts tape over his MacBook’s webcam.

I started reading this blog after last week linking to James’ experience with Comcast Fiber to his home. Great remarks and worth a read.
